Please don’t take me wrong in case you being a “gentleman” gentlemen. For sure, Mindful-Meditation is for everyone. But I still emphasize that the women should meditate every day because they need something to vent out their stress and avoid the “depression-trap”.

“Shipra” is my helper in household chores. None of her “predecessors” been around her when it comes to the efficiency and perfection. Glistening-dishes in the kitchen racks or the shimmering floor, clearly reflect her sparkling Brain Health. Repetitions of strokes she applies, on the floor or the dishes, are worth watching.

Multitasking is not Your hobby, it’s a lifestyle-Necessity

On the other hand, I am done with at least five of utensils at the same time, whenever she is off her duties. Simultaneously making a list of the most important jobs needed to be done. Rarely giving even a bit of attention to the “job in hand”. Always hurrying for something else. So “preparing menu while teaching kids”!  “In the kitchen working on my Office Yoga eBook!! Or feeling that “it’s time to take bath”, sitting in front of PC!!! Sounds familiar?

We All Have Memory Overload

Why is our brain so confused? Sometimes action overlapping takes place too. At the middle of doing laundry, we remember soaking rice. Then we do soak… leaving the laundry mid-way. The act of “soaking-rice immediately” becomes crucial because more chances are that rice will remain “un-soaked” if not rushed immediately! Huh…

Why do we do this way? I mean thinking of a million things; not being present at the moment. This is a typical case of memory overload; the most common feature of a woman in her different avatar- a wife, a mother, a teacher, an entrepreneur, a washer and so on! Good news is- we can overcome this and be more mindful with a dedicated meditation session every day.

Please note that the above-said problem doesn’t exist with me anymore since I started my daily meditation. If you are new and feel from where to start then here is my step by step guide to starting with meditation.

How Meditation Boosts and Controls Hormones – Brief Anatomy

Meditation is known to keep a check on Hormones such as Melatonin, Serotonin, GABA, DHEA, Endorphins, Growth Hormone, & others. Just have a brief overview-

Meditation Boosts Serotonin- The “Happy Neurotransmitter”

Of our approximately 86 billion brain cells, most all are influenced by serotonin. Known by many scientists as the “happy” neurotransmitter, serotonin is key to helping relay signals from one part of the brain to another. This crucial chemical has a profound impact on our mood, contributing greatly to our overall state of well-being.

Meditation Reduces Cortisol- The “Stress Hormone”

Cortisol, a major age-accelerating hormone, is the one chemical where less is better. When we are stressed, our bodies produce cortisol and adrenaline in abundance. This is normal, a natural product of our evolution, responsible for “fight or flight “action, a required characteristic of our nomad ancestors.

However, over the long term, this chemical when under chronic stress is not normal, and can cause havoc, harming your brain and body, hindering in the production of other good hormones, eventually leading to anxiety, depression, increased blood pressure, brain fog, insomnia, inflammation, the list goes on and on. Hence, too much of this stress hormone is really bad for your overall well-being.

Meditation Boosts DHEA- The “Longevity Molecule”

Best known by researchers as the “longevity molecule” and the stress buster, DHEA is one of the most important hormones in the body. As we age our DHEA levels decrease, opening us up to diseases and an accelerated aging process.

Meditation Boosts GABA- The “Calm Chemical”

Responsible for maintaining your calm, GABA (gamma amino butyric acid) is one of the major checking neurotransmitters in your central nervous system.

People with addiction, including alcohol, drugs, tobacco, caffeine, and food, have one thing in common: lack of GABA. Not having enough of this super-important chemical can create an array of problems, including anxiety, nervousness, racing thoughts, and sleeplessness. Luckily, there is an effective solution.

Meditation Boosts Endorphins- The “Natural High”

Responsible for a comprehending sense of happiness, endorphins are a category of neurotransmitters that the body uses as an internal pain killer. A 1995 study (Harte et al) published in the Biological Psychology Journal tested the neurochemical release of two groups — 11 elite runners and 12 highly trained meditators — after running and meditation, respectively. What did they find? Both groups’ endorphin levels were greatly elevated. Perhaps even more amazing, meditation’s “feel-good effect” scored even higher than running!

Meditation Boosts Growth Hormone- The “Fountain of Youth”

Since the dawn of time, man has sought out the elusive “fountain of youth.” While most people today no longer believe in miraculous, “stay young forever” potions like our ancestors once did, growth hormone (GH) is making a very strong case as the key to turning back the hands of time.

Meditation Boosts Melatonin- The “Sleep Molecule”

A key to the good mood and restful sleep, melatonin is a hormone manufactured by the pineal gland, with levels in the blood peaking just before bedtime. A chemical “Superhero”, melatonin is known to prevent cancer, strengthen the immune system, slow down aging, and has been linked to helping prevent over 100 different diseases. (SOURCE)

Why Woman Should Meditate Every Day

1. Meditation Is More Effective On Women

In the recent research by the DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY AND HUMAN BEHAVIOUR, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University found that meditation in which practitioners focus on attending to the present moment without judgment may have greater benefits for women. The study looked at 77 undergraduate students taking a 12-week course on mindfulness that featured 30 minutes of meditation three times per week. Compared with men, women showed greater decreases in negative affect (including emotions like guilt and irritation) and greater increases in mindfulness and self-compassion.

2. Meditation Has Direct Impact On Your Cycle

Mindfulness-Meditation has been shown to improve the symptoms of menstruation and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Meditation works to lower stress and improves physical and emotional symptoms of PMS, especially in females with severe PMS. When compared to similar other mind pacing activities such as reading, meditation offers a better solution.

Meditation may also improve certain premenstrual physical symptoms including pain and water retention, and menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats.

Hence being a no harm almost no cost practice, meditation can potentially improve PMS symptoms and reduce stress.

3. Meditation helps us to Be Present with Eagle Vision

Meditation is a method to train your mind to be present at the moment. As a woman, you know the importance of being in a slow pace of body. Which in turn sets your brain at a faster pace. This is also the perfect mantra of longevity and a supercharged life.  What meditation teaches us is the art of stepping back and taking an eagle vision. Eagle soars to the height to get the bird’s eye view while keeping those minute details in mind.

4. Meditation- The True Reflection of your Soul

Contrary to their male counterparts, women get a sense of spirituality at a much younger age. Meditation enables to switch off all the distractions and travel inside to hear the voice of your soul clearly. Your soul is the whole-sole driving force behind guiding your life via a subconscious mind. Intuitions itself are known to be stronger in women.

5. Brain Simulations Become Sharp with regular meditation

The process of meditation, as well as its effect,  is a growing subfield of neurological research. Modern scientific techniques and instruments, such as MRI and EEG have been used to study the effect of regular meditation on the brain and body.

Brain scans have shown that meditation actually increases brain activity and grey material substantially. Which further enables a better nervous system and a natural mood-elevation.

6. Meditation can Boost Your Beauty and Delay Aging

An hour of stress can damage your appearance drastically. Well, this change is 100% reversible. But if the stress is chronic and you don’t know how to manage it; be prepared to witness a line of grey hair and fine wrinkles. Yes, the sign of aging can easily be prominent with sustained tension. And…women being ultra-sensitive, stress can take a toll on them.

The meditation miraculously can calm your mind and keep stress at bay. Resulting in an improved sleep cycle, along with inducing a beautifying sleep.

Increased dopamine and serotonin levels are the best substitutes for an anti-aging cream.

Wrapping Up- meditation for woman

Thank you for reading to this point. Maybe you’re already familiar with the most of the things described above. This is only a reminder for what meditation can do for your wellbeing and why the woman should meditate every day. There are studies to suggest that women get more benefit from the meditation.

You can meditate with different breathing techniques, guided ones or chanting some mantra. Only keep in mind the most essential ingredient: THE MINDFULNESS. So if you are a multitasking woman (which is a way essential for us); try to slow down a bit and invest in yourself first. Occasionally it’s preferred to put me before we. This also essential to balance your body-chakras.
