Living miles away from your parents who are aged and ailing could be heartbreaking.
There is little scope for offering your helping hands to the people you love the most.
One morning my mother was sadly describing my father’s deteriorating health, including some sort of severe weakness while walking and doing his daily chores.
Since my childhood, I am used to watching my father who encompasses immense energy and is highly active. So just a thought of my “weak father” was enough to invoke the hidden empathy within my heart.
Remembering those childhood moments which I spent with him, I started praying to God to send him instant energy so that he could feel better and start enjoying his life again.
“By that time, I was entirely unaware of the reiki healing, or its effects.” (Just A pinch of familiarity with the word reiki).
On the same evening, I called to check my father’s condition and was surprised to hear his cheerful voice after a long time…on the other hand, **I WAS FEELING WEAK FROM MY CORE.
A few hours later, on the same day, I came across a fabulous course on Reiki Healing… it was a calling… I absorbed the course quickly and nicely… sometimes, I wonder when I think about this account of “manifestations”.
What Is Reiki
Reiki is a form of energy healing therapy. It was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in the 1920s. In Japanese, “reiki” means universal life energy. (“spiritually guided life force energy”)
According to the yogic philosophies,
the reiki energy flows through the Pranamaya kosha, the “sheath of vital energy.” You can learn about your body’s five koshas- the 5 sheaths of illusions here.
This electric, lightning energy flows freely in a person who is in perfect health.
But due to the modern lifestyle and other environmental conditions, when it gets disrupted or blocked, it manifests in the form of diseases- mental and physical.
Reiki healing is a method by which these disrupted energies are harmonized and channelized to manifest into optimum health.
Ancient yogic philosophies believed that we all are energetic beings and that our bodies have energy fields. This energy is the deciding factor behind our well-being. Therefore, whenever for any reason, there is a hindrance in the smooth flow of this energy, it causes illnesses.
Reiki healing works by promoting and aligning this energy to ensure mental, emotional, and spiritual healing in living and even sometimes nonliving* too.
(*Because living or nonliving… all matter in this universe is made up of energy. Think about the physics, the atoms, the subatomic particles, etc. Combining and recombining creating molecules, compounds; decomposing, changing forms, and so on…)
Five Reiki Symbols- Aids Of A Reiki Healer
A Reiki Healer focuses on opening your chakras (energy centers) by incorporating special symbols and hand positions for energetically healing your body. Learn about your 7-Chakras here.
The process of healing clears your mind and focuses your energy where it’s needed the most. Once the negative thoughts and feelings are subsided the healing process begins.
Reiki symbols alert the subconscious mind to change the behavior of Reiki energy. The symbols need to be activated before channeling the energy toward a person. The reiki healer can visualize, say their name- in mind or loud, or can draw with the help of their palms, or eyes. The symbols are activated with the help of an intention.
These Five Symbols Are:
Cho Ku Rei: The power symbol
If you’re looking to either increase or decrease power, Cho Ku Rei is the symbol for you. It has a resemblance with a drawing of a coil (which can be drawn in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction) and represents chi or the transfer of energy throughout the body.
Sei He ki: The emotional healing symbol
The general meaning of sei he ki is “God and man become one,” and the drawing of the symbol resembles either a wave cresting and getting ready to crash over a beach or a bird’s wing.
Dai Kyo Mo: The Master Reiki Symbol
The healing powers of dai ko myo are all-inclusive, healing the upper chakras, the aura, and the soul as a whole. Dai ko myo is the empowerment symbol, and means “great enlightenment” or “bright shining light.” By promoting the process of spiritual enlightenment, dai ko myo helps bring Reiki practitioners closer to God”.
Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen: The Distance Symbol
This miraculous symbol is used to send reiki across time and space.
The meaning of hon sha ze sho nen is “having no present, past, or future,”. This symbol increases the power of the healing energy manifolds to promote distance reiki healing.
Much before the advent of telephone television or work from home, the Reiki healers provided distant Reiki healing.
Distant Reiki intentionally can be delivered to a person from great distances.
Those distances can be across the continents, even in the absence of video or audio calls!
Distant Reiki is taught at the Reiki II level and is optimally administered by Reiki Masters.
Raku: Symbol for grounding and completion
Reiki symbol used at the master level, and also known as the “fire serpent”—because it is shaped like a zig-zag or lightning-bolt that’s used primarily for grounding after Reiki.
As you can see from **my story, I had a feeling of extreme weakness in my core because I was unaware of the process of grounding required after sending my energy, to my father in this case. It is a kind of cord-cutting or disconnecting from your receiver. Without this process a healer’s energy can keep depleting! And in few cases, may contract some of the symptoms of the receiver!

What Are 5 Reiki Principles
The five principles of Reiki are as follows:
1. Just for today, I will not worry.
2. Just for today, I will not have anger.
3. Just for today, I will work with integrity.
4. Just for today, I will be grateful.
5. Just for today, I will be kind to all living things.
The reiki principles, also known as the precepts, start with the phrase “just for today…” Each day we can start fresh. Reiki masters realized the demands on humans and how challenging it can be to be aligned with virtuous habits!
Before receiving or giving the reiki healing, it is necessary to cultivate these principles. That said, a person interested in the teachings of reiki healing or looking forward to having a higher level of connectivity with others, must practice self-reflection, self-study, meditation, living with clear intention and receiving clear perspective.
How Does Reiki Healing Looks Like
While giving a reiki healing session the healer gently places his or her hands above your body, first to check and scan the quality and flow of energy then balance the same with the help of his/ her tuning energy channelizing abilities.
She will gradually move her hands across your body, pausing shortly through each chakra from the Crown of the head to the Root of the spine in the perineum. The hand’s position can also correlate with the body’s meridians and minor energy centers.
However, reiki energy is considered to be intelligent enough so it reaches where it is required most, irrespective of the hand position.
Moreover, “It is the intention of the healer and also reiki healing receiver which decides the kind of healing received”.
Reiki Hands Position
Reiki Masters ensure the placement of their hands on specific parts of the body (also called auxiliary positions) which results in some therapeutic benefit. There can be 13 to 18 hand positions.
Out of which, 7 for each Chakra starting from the crown going down to Ajna, Throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral, and the root chakra. Other positions also find a place on either left or right side of these Chakras.
Specific conditions Reiki healing Works Upon
Whether it’s pain, stress, life situation, chronic illness, or looking for general wellness, Reiki is always there to help you.
Main issues where Reiki healing is used nowadays
Reiki as a chronic pain reliever
Reiki may help decrease pain perception by healing the emotional aspect of pain.
Reiki works excellently to resolve emotional distress by allowing healing energy to flow freely throughout the body, resulting in relaxation and reduced pain and tension throughout the body.
Reiki In Inflammation
With or without light touch, a healer accesses universal energy sources that can strengthen the body’s ability to heal itself, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain and stress.
Reiki In Lifestyle Created Health Conditions
Our modern lifestyle is the main cause of most diseases. Diabetes, Hypertension, Back Pain, Cervical Spondylitis, Constipation, and Depression are a few of the plethora of illnesses. Reiki healing works therapeutically towards curing these health conditions.
How long does a Reiki healing session last?
A typical reiki session lasts between 20 and 90 minutes, depending upon the requirement and the healer.
How do you feel at the time and after Reiki?
It could be cool, hot, or tingling!
As a Reiki healer, I personally love to take responses from my clients. whether in-person or a distance reiki healing process, most of the people feel sensations in there palms and soles of the feel. More intense feelings are experienced surrounding the related Chakra where the person is having issues and availing the healing for.
According to anecdotal reports, most people feel relaxed after a reiki session. Others may feel unusually tired. This indicates your body is receiving and healing!
Allegedly, tiredness might be accompanied by other side effects, like headaches, stomach aches, and weakness in very rare cases.
Disclosure: Reiki does not treat specific conditions and it is not an alternative to medical treatment. It doesn’t treat any diseases or disorders. Instead, it aims to promote overall wellness.
If you have a disease or disorder, it’s still important to get appropriate medical treatment while still taking the benefits of Reiki.
