Yoga for fertility and Sexual Health

Should I, shouldn’t I? There was a great hesitation before writing on yoga for fertility and sexual health.

Reason…

Because I found that the search volume for the above topic was whooping low. Ya, that means people rarely bothered googling about yoga for fertility and sexual health…

Does that mean everyone on this planet has no issue with conceiving and already is a performer and achiever? But why on the earth medical stores are filled with those power-boosting, performance-enhancing medicines! And what about those clinics claiming big…

I believe that most people aren’t aware of this aspect of yoga. Neither they do associate yoga with sexual health nor with fertility! Most of my writings begin with my personal life experiences. But this time I realized that I am really missing an ultra inspiring tale on today’s topic. Because by God’s grace I am a mother of two children without much of the hard work. Only one instance I remember is how a prolonged illness resulted in my O to an o and then yoga came to my rescue! Butt…, if you are here seeking some fun postures, I may disappoint you. Rather, I will today deal with the productive, fun, and pleasure part of ancient yoga science. With a belief that the ‘adept and ancient yogis’ will excuse me since they spent their lives tough and deprived of family and bodily pleasure.

Possible Causes of Female Infertility

Women need functioning ovaries, fallopian tube, and a uterus to get pregnant. Conditions affecting any one of these organs can contribute to female infertility. According to the CDC, the most common cause of female infertility is PCO- Polycystic ovaries syndrome.PCOS is a condition that causes women to not ovulate, or to ovulate irregularly. Some women with PCOS have elevated levels of testosterone (male hormones), which can cause acne and excess hair growth.

How yoga works For Infertility and PCO

As PCO is caused by hereditary and environmental factors stress is recognized as the major cause. With PCO other health measures such as diabetes, obesity, and mood swings also become countable. PCO also affects the overall functioning of the thyroid gland and causes ovarian cysts further causing hormonal imbalances and stress. The links between stress and infertility are complex and not fully understood, but cortisol, the stress hormone, can interfere with ovulation and conceiving says Eve Feinberg, a reproductive endocrinologist with the Fertility Centers of Illinois.

Hence avoiding the negative cycle which can be understood simply as “stress causing infertility and infertility causing more of the stress…” and so on. Lower stress levels and having a positive mood and outlook can increase the chances of fertility treatments working better.

Chakra Science And Sexual Pleasure

The SACRAL CHAKRA, center for sexual activities and pleasure plays a major role in deciding how much creativity and fun we may experience in our day to day life.

Anodia Judith, in her epic creation, CHAKRAS WHEEL OF LIFE has very rightly depicted how two persons’ body chakras combine and contribute to the process of lovemaking.

Also, how liberating current can lead to the physical attraction between two people to a hearty affair. Further, why love finds its final destination once two bodies are united, because of the manifestation current.

While he may be acting from a lower chakras physical/sexual level, bringing her attention to this area, she may, in turn, stimulate his heart chakra by emanating at this level.

Reasons Why You Might Be Lacking Libido

Yes, this may be obvious that the first step towards fertility is a regular and healthy relationship between the two partners. But in the modern lifestyle, this very foundational aspect may be missed because of the lack of libido a.k.a. our normal sex drive.

This may happen to anyone irrespective of age, creed, and culture. Our sexual organs are in no way different than the others in our bodies. Take the example of a weak digestive system. We all experience it at some stage of our life. The reason could be illness, stress, improper eating habits, etc. The same is the case with sexual health. Stress, lifestyle and many other factors may be responsible for the diminishing sexual urge and general health. These reasons can primarily interfere with your desires.

  • Chronic Stress
  • Illness and weakness
  • Menopause
  • Age
  • Lack Of exercise and  physical Activities

Research Favoring This Science Of Yoga

According to a study published online in The Journal of Sexual Medicine (Nov. 12, 2009), regular yoga practice improves several aspects of sexual function in women, including reproductive health, desire, arousal, orgasm, and overall satisfaction.

The study involved 40 healthy women, ages 22 to 55, who were enrolled in a yoga program in India. Most of the women were married, and all were sexually active. Subjects were instructed in a protocol of 22 yoga poses, or asanas, that are believed to have positive effects on abdominal and pelvic muscle tone, digestion, joint function, and mood. Various poses were modified for women who weren’t able to perform the full versions. Each participant filled out a standard sexual-function questionnaire at the beginning and end of the 12-week program, which featured an hour of yoga practice each day, followed by breathing and relaxation.

At the end of the program, the researchers found improvements in the women’s sexual-function scores in the six domains that were assessed (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, pain, and overall satisfaction), particularly among women over age 45, who showed the greatest improvements in arousal, lubrication, and pain. Nearly 75% of the women said they were more satisfied with their sexual life following yoga training.

Four Important Benefits That Sex and Yoga Have In Common

It’s true. Yoga turns you better in bed.

According to JohnsonMegan, there are some yoga poses that can be double as sex positions, yoga isn’t just about gaining flexibility for better sex (although this is a perk)!  There are many common benefits of having sex and doing yoga. And if you’re not able to do both on a regular basis, doing at least one of them is a great way to maintain a healthy mind and body.

So if you are really looking for an inspiration to continue with either of these, keep reading and learn a few of the common benefits yoga and sex may offer.

Here Are 4  Common Mental Benefits That Yoga and Sex Share:

Paves Your Way To Mindfulness

It is a well-known fact that regular yoga practice leads to mindfulness on and off the yoga mat. Focusing on your breath and body activities in a yoga session opens to a serene state of mind.

Sexual activity, on the other hand, may have a completely different intention than yoga, does the well-matched act of mindfulness. As the common elements of body, breath, focus, and postures are present here also.

Enhanced Self- Esteem

Regular yoga practice sets and harmonizes our brain and body both. We learn to clear our minds and focus on the better aspect of life. Also learn to spare and let go of the experiences which now are irrelevant and don’t serve us. this process of clarifying is really important to create a space for positive energy, great self-esteem, and confidence.

Yoga also helps us to understand our bodies and create a healthier body image and achieve mental clarity which further helps to understand and explore the entire aspect of sexuality.

Excellent stress management

Physical activities and love both are the best stress busters. Endorphins released from either of these activities make us happy and fulfilled.

What if I told you it might actually be better to practice yoga BEFORE your adventure?

When we practice yoga before our romp, we are more relaxed to welcome new experiences and sensations. Practicing yoga beforehand also increases our oxygen levels, improves circulation, and increases sexual energy.

This helps us focus on the moment, increasing our sex drive, and making those moments of pleasure more intense.

Both Increase Your Sexual health and ability to conceive

Hip-opener poses such as Pigeon, Happy Baby, and Malasana helps to rejuvenate uterus and other reproductive organs, improve flexibility, heighten sensitivity, and relieve tension in the lower body.

This helps increase circulation, give the body fresh oxygen, and increase blood flow to the pelvic area and reproductive organs – all of which lead to more intense arousal and a better climax!

The overall mental benefit that comes with a steady yoga practice and consistent sex life both work to boost your confidence and sexual effectiveness.

Best Yoga Poses For Fertility and sexual Health

I will give you a well-curated list of yoga poses for fertility and sexual health along with the pdf download. But first, let’s understand the anatomy of a few most common yoga poses and the science behind their being so useful and versatile.

Most yogasana can individually add to the flexibility and reduce stress.  However, in this yoga sequence for fertility and sexual health, I want you to focus on the poses which target our lower body area comprising of hips flexor, abdominal cavity, pelvic floor, and kegel muscles. Also, yoga poses which work to balance your Sacral Chakra will do the job of brightening up your reproductive organs and sexual power together.

Poses like Cat Pose (Marjaryasana) and Cow Pose (Bitilasana) help to strengthen the Kegel muscles,  muscles that contract during orgasm analogous to your tailbone moving from Cat to Cow. Strong Kegels produce better, more controlled orgasms.

Yoga postures such as Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana) is a full-body workout that adds to the flexibility and fluidity in our lower body. Further, bridge Pose does wonder to our three lower physical chakras which are associated with our sexual and reproductive health system. They not only provide an intense hip flexor stretch but also tone the vagina and improve orgasms. Holding Bridge is similar to doing a Kegel because you squeeze the same pelvic muscles.

Pigeon pose a.k.a.Rajakapotasana is one of the best fertility yogasana excellent for releasing deep tension in the hips, putting the mind in a calm and serene state. Bringing your attention to your breath, you move away from your thoughts to attain mindfulness. This massage your reproductive organs and enhances your ability to create a sense of sexual intimacy with your partner.

I find Eagle Pose very exotic, it finds its mention even in the Kama Sutra. When you squeeze and then release the legs, the rushing of blood rejuvenates the cervix, preparing the whole area for unprecedented sensations! For the same reason, eagle pose is one of the best yoga poses to boost fertility. Holding the pose itself requires focus, willpower, and steadiness, which is further helpful to stay stress-free. You slow down and feel relaxed.

Bound Angle Pose is good for your abdominal cavity and also can deal with low libido. It is great for, stretching the inner thighs and opening the hips for a wider range of motion much needed for a healthy pregnancy. With regular practice of this pose, you can shed layers of anxiety and fat together which makes you feel a natural openness and sense of intimacy. This posture also improves blood flow to the pelvic area, and where the blood goes,  energy, and vitality flows. Circulation and increased blood flow are directly linked to the highest level of health and arousal.

Downward Facing Dog Pose calms the mind and invigorates the body, both important ingredients in good parental health and sex. This pose not only boosts confidence and muscle tone but makes you grounded and connected. You connect with your hips and groin area visually, which could be an awesome aphrodisiac. Downward Dog will ease muscle tension in your back and improve overall flexibility.

Shoulder Stand ( Sarvangasana)  aids in stimulating hormone production and balancing the thyroid and hypothalamus glands. The parasympathetic nervous system is activated, bringing a sense of calm and serenity to the heart and mind. The throat chakra is also unblocked in this pose which is a center for creativity and self-expression. Results in better tuning with your better half!

Pelvic floor muscles Contraction To Enhance Conceiving- The most common yoga for fertility and to enhance sexual pleasure is, in fact, an activity that can be done anywhere. It involves contracting and releasing the muscles of your pubic area as if you want to stop the flow of urine. You can do this 10-15 times, holding to a count of five each time.

Padmasana (Lotus Pose)- In Sanskrit, Padmasana is derived from the words the Padma (lotus) and Asana (pose). According to sacred Hindu texts, Padmasana destroys disease and awakens the Kundalini energy that rests at the base of the spine. It is a meditative posture you can do sitting on a meditation cushion and paying heed to your breathing. Meditation may not seem to be a path to your sensuality and sexuality, but the reality is that meditation gives you space and time to tap into these intensely personal and rich experiences. By taking time to be present at the moment, you create a direct unfiltered connection to your true self – sexuality not spared!.
